A 15-year-old boy was taken into custody Friday after he allegedly stole a City of Dallas pickup truck, struck a security officer’s vehicle and then fled the scene, according to authorities.

Officers were called to a City of Dallas water facility around 10:30 p.m. for the incident, Dallas police said.

The facility is located at 16941 Lake Ray Hubbard Drive. Officials said the property is closed to the public and is patrolled by commissioned armed security guards.

When officers arrived, a security guard told them he observed a pickup driving erratically and attempted to stop it in his security vehicle, officials said. The pickup driver refused to stop, the guard said, and he fired his weapon when it began to accelerate in his direction.

The pickup then reportedly hit the security guard's vehicle, as well as as surrounding trees and bushes, police said.

The teen suspect fled from the scene and abandoned the pickup about half a mile away from the scene, according to police.

He was taken into custody after officers found him walking down the street, allegedly with the key to the stolen pickup in his pocket.

After the teen was checked by medical staff, he was transported to the Henry Wade Juvenile Detention Center on a charge of aggravated assault.

Police said the security guard was uninjured in the incident.
