A strong forage base at the bottom of the food chain supports a good open-water fishery for white bass, hybrids and stripers. In the 1980's this was one of the few lakes to be stocked on a continuing basis with both pure stripers and hybrids. In April fishing for all species can be excellent.
The state and city have provided launch ramps and picnic sites along the grassy shoreline. Also, several major marinas offer ramps and covered fishing barges where a fee is charged.
Look for white bass and other open water species lurking around flooded humps just south of the I-30 bridge. Catch them on heavy spoons or slabs.
